✒️ The Power of Penmanship - Adult 4-Week Class (Sept 29 - Oct 20)

In "The Power of Penmanship," students will learn to write using the American Cursive Handwriting system, created by Master Penman Michael Sull, and explore the history of cursive handwriting in the United States.

    *ages 15, 16, and 17 must be accompanied by an adult. we offer flexible ages for the adult workshop for those who are looking for something fun to do with their teen kid.

We will discuss finger versus whole-arm movement, posture, how to warm up, and the basic strokes for the letterforms. We will explore each letter, starting with the lowercase letters, then the capitals. Finally, we will learn common ligatures and put words and entire sentences together. 

The class is geared towards students with minimal cursive experience and will be fun, fast-paced, and interactive. ALSO, we will be using your very own fountain pen throughout the class! Each participant will receive their own fountain pen and ink refill cartridges and learn how to refill, clean and maintain them - you may never use a ballpoint pen ever again.

All materials and supplies are included in the program cost. Participants will leave the class with starter calligraphy supplies to take home.

Meet Your Instructor: Amy Owens

Amy Owens has enjoyed beautiful letters since she was very young, learning several scripts as early as grade school. She earned an architecture degree from Ball State University and worked in that field before opening and operating a design studio for wedding/event stationery for several years. 

While constantly pursuing personal growth in the lettering arts, she became a member and board member of the International Association for Master Penmen, Engrossers and Teachers of Handwriting (IAMPETH) and a certified instructor of the American Cursive Handwriting System by Master Penman Michael Sull. She currently teaches lettering, calligraphy, architecture, and interior design to students at Leaves of Learning in Cincinnati, in addition to teaching adults around town and online. She also does in-person calligraphy events for luxury brands in Cincinnati and beyond.
