Meet Your Instructor: Elise Mcgremis


Elise Megremis is an artist and art educator with over 30 years of teaching experience. She holds a BFA in Jewelry/Metals from Miami University and an MFA in Jewelry/Metals/Enameling from Kent State University. Her artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally for three decades, and she has received multiple grants for travel and research, including several trips to Greece to study Tamatas. Elise’s work appears in a Davis Beginning Sculpture textbook and in Metalsmith Magazine’s Exhibition in Print. She has exhibited at the Olympics, completed Artist-in-Residencies at Petrified Forest and Hot Springs National Parks as well as Azule AIR, and has artwork in the permanent collections at Graceland, Hot Springs NP, and Petrified Forest NP.

Elise has taught visual art at Purdue University, Kent State University, Miami University, Preble Shawnee High and Junior High Schools, Yellow Springs High School and McKinney Middle School, Hollingsworth East Elementary, Talawanda High School, Kramer Elementary, Liberty ECS, Hopewell ECS, and Dixie High School. She creates mixed-media illustrations featuring whimsical characters in detailed natural environments, reflecting her long-standing interest in figurative, narrative, and eclectic imagery. She has recently continued her studies in illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Born in Bloomington, Indiana, she has lived in Oxford, Ohio since 1988 and is the mother of two sons, Oliver and Dean, along with a dog (Peanut Butter) and two cats (Miles and George).
