In this class, students will learn a variety of basic embroidery stitches and techniques that are used in creating embroidered pictures and projects. The stitches and techniques taught in class are the basic building blocks of embroidery and can be expanded upon in a variety of ways.

Week 1: Introduction
Learning Goal: How to properly stretch and hoop fabric, basic straight embroidery stitches, and some light history on the different types of embroidery work

Week 2: Texture and Shading
Learning Goal: Combining embroidery stitches, students will learn different techniques and ways to create texture and shading.

Week 3: Design
Learning Goal: Combining design elements to create a picture, this involve students learning 2D and 3D elements

Week 4: Stitching
Learning Goal: To apply the techniques they’ve learned previously, students will continue to work on their final project with guided assistance to help teach confidence in their creative endeavors

Week 5: Expansion
Learning Goal: Discuss and learn extra techniques such as pad stitching, beading, and wire work that can help bring a piece to life

Week 6: Finishing
Learning Goal: Finishing the project and discussing presentation options. Students will learn how to complete their projects for display

Registrants will need to purchase this starter embroidery kit before the first day of class.

Meet Your Instructor: Lindsey Jones

Lindsey Jones is currently the Costume Shop Manager for the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company and she teaches community sewing classes at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. She has worked in theatre, ballet, and opera doing costume design and wardrobe. Her partner and herself have been patrons of the arts and spend much of their time enjoying all the different programs Cincinnati has to offer, such as: Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, May Festival Chorus, Playhouse in the Park, and many more. During Lindsey’s free time she enjoys reading, painting, hiking, and embroidery. She is also an avid D&D player and loves spending time with her cats.
