Phil Black - Saxophone

Phillip is a saxophonist performer and educator based in Cincinnati, Ohio, with experience in the classical and commercial music industries. He has performed in a variety of ensembles and styles around North Carolina, Indiana, and Ohio as a soloist, chamber musician, and ensemble musician. Most recently, Phillip was featured as a soloist playing Paul Creston’s Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra with Indiana University’s University Orchestra as the winner of the 2024-2025 Woodwind Concerto Competition.
Phillip is a member of the RUBRA graduate saxophone quartet, based out of Cincinnati, OH. As an educator, Phillip has taught in a variety of settings with different ages and demographics of students. He believes all students should love what they do, and prioritizes enjoyment and passion for music making in the learning process, whether it be in private lessons, chamber groups, large ensembles, or classroom settings. Phillip holds degrees in saxophone performance from University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Indiana University, and is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Saxophone at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
