Teacher Extraordinaire – Claire Timmerman

A native of Cincinnati Ohio, Claire recently returned home after several years of residence in Paris, France. While abroad, she studied Jazz and vocal music at Paris VIII Université and began touring internationally as an independent Singer-Songwriter, performing at some of Europe’s acclaimed festivals and venues performing on Violin, Cello and Guitar. At the Center, Claire is teaching lessons on all 3 instruments: Violin, Cello and Guitar, and offers a unique approach to both traditional and non traditional learners, children and adults alike.

Claire attended the SCPA in Cincinnati, Ohio, and later graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan where she majored in violin performance. Claire completed studies at the University of Dayton in Music Therapy with a minor in cello performance. There, she also studied guitar and voice.

Claire’s  parents, both Suzuki teachers, studied in Japan under the direct tutelage of Dr. Suzuki. Her passion for music and teaching were nurtured from a very young age. She began playing violin using the Suzuki method at the age of 2, and Suzuki cello shortly thereafter. She began her Suzuki teacher training and taught her first Suzuki workshop in St. Petersburg, FL while still in her teens.

Her travels and diverse musical studies have led her to have a very dynamic and holistic approach to music and teaching. Claire believes that music is an integral part of the human experience and that everyone should have an equal opportunity to learn.
