Suzuki Strings

Suzuki at Fall Festival 2018 1.jpg

Cincinnati Suzuki School at the Wyoming Fine Arts Center is the oldest and largest Suzuki program in Cincinnati. In partnership with UC-CCM’s Preparatory Department, our program offers the tristate’s most comprehensive and robust Suzuki educational program, with an active Parent Organization who support the mission of the program through various activities. Our students come from as far as Oxford (OH), and we offer weekly group classes and orchestras at all playing levels: from Pre-Twinklers to Beyond Books. (Most programs in the region, as well as nationally, only offer bi-weekly groups).

One important aspect of the Suzuki education is the mentoring educational triangle formed between the student, the teacher and the parent. A loving environment is created for the child, in which the child’s natural inclination to music is channeled lovingly through encouragement and celebration of each small step. To foster this environment, one parent is involved in the musical learning of their child by

  • attending lessons

  • being “home teachers” during the week

  • and by working with the teacher to create an enjoyable learning environment at home, where music becomes a joyous part of upbringing.

In addition to private lessons, children also participate in weekly group lessons and have many opportunities to perform:

  • in informal weekly “Talent Time” recitals

  • in formal group and solo recitals

  • in concerts at the Center

  • and through community outreach events

The Cincinnati Civic Orchestra rehearses on Thursdays at 7:15 pm in the Paul Bartel Ballroom. Since its founding in 1929, the orchestra has provided Greater Cincinnati area musicians the opportunity to play classical, light classical and pops music in a full symphony orchestra open to all without auditions. All members are volunteers, including those with extensive professional training and experience. The orchestra encourages interested musicians to join even if they have not played for many years.
