Tom Buckley – Drums

Tom Buckley, Drums Instructor - Wyoming Fine Arts Center

Tom Buckley is one of the most in demand drummers in the Cincinnati area. While attending the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, he performed with a variety of small jazz combos, played in several of the school’s highly regarded musicals, and performed in both the Jazz Lab Band and Jazz Ensemble. He was the first recipient of the now annual Bob Bodley award and scholarship, which is given to the student who most exemplifies Bob’s characteristics of humility, creativity, and professionalism.

After graduating from CCM, he was chosen to be one of four students to travel to Brazil with professor Phil Degreg. Here, he taught classes on improvisation and studied with some of the masters of Brazilian music. He has been teaching private lessons regularly for four years, and he also has taught at music camps across the country and has worked with students of all ages. He is currently the head drum instructor of the Taylor High School Drum Line.

In addition to his busy teaching schedule, Tom regularly plays with some of the finest musicians in the area. He is a part of many groups including The Cincy Brass, the Rick Van Matre Quintet, the Chris Barrick Quartet, and the Joe Duran Nonet. He can be heard on several critically acclaimed releases including Cincy Brass’s 2011 release Ain’t Nuttin Louder, Kim Pensyl’s 2012 release Foursight, and most recently Rick Van Matre Quintet’s Lines Above (Summit Records).

Tom is from Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he started playing percussion at age nine.
