Teacher Extraordinaire – Mary Rekers (Musik Kids)

MRekers

A life-long educator and Miss Mary has been teaching children since 1978, first as a classroom teacher, then as a music teacher in both private school settings and in her own music studio. She is a certified elementary classroom teacher in the state of Ohio, a trained Orff Schulwerk teacher (a music method), and a certified MusikGarten instructor. In 1999, Miss Mary came to the Center as a Family Music teacher. Four years later, she started a full program encompassing all levels of the MusikGarten curriculum — from Baby Music through Group Keyboard. In addition to directing and teaching in the Musik Kids program, she is currently teaching for the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music’s Preparatory Department at their Blue Ash College location, and is working with the Suzuki Strings Program at the Wyoming Fine Arts Center, bringing the MusikGarten curriculum to Suzuki’s youngest children and teaching music theory to the older students.

    Hello,

I heard about the MusicKids and its put in age groups. Unfortunately, my son will be a year older than the (6-7) age group, but he will be in 2nd grade. So I was curious if this group was geared toward 1st & 2nd graders and if it would be okay for my son to attend. We school at home with OHVA so he does not get access to a music class.

    Thank you.

      Hi Beth,

We have many children who are homescohooled. I think your son will be quite fine in the class. For the most part, age ranges are wider in our classes. The best thing will be to talk to Miss Mary directly. If you don’t mind, give us a call and we can go from there.

      Thanks for your interest!
