Teacher Extraordinaire – Melinda Welch (Art)

MWelch2

As our visual art director for nearly four years, Melinda continues to develop and grow as an art teacher and artist while learning much from her students. With the degree in Art Education from the UC-DAAP, students (and parents in our First Saturday Art program) keep coming back for her exceptional teaching both during the school year and the summer camps. Prior to coming to the Center, Melinda taught at the Kennedy Heights Art Center, Pleasant Ridge Montessori (afterschool program), Walnut Hills High School, Sherwood Elementary, North Avondale Montessori, and at the Anderson High. Internship engagements included the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Taft Museum of Art, Manifest Gallery and the Prairie Gallery (Northside). An active artist who works in ceramics, photography, collage and whatever else strikes her artistic fancy, Melinda, her husband, daughter Nora and a baby boy on the way reside in Camp Washington.

Summer Art Camps are taught and directed my Miss Melinda. Feel free to check out the offerings by clicking here.

Teacher Extraordinaire – Claire Timmerman

ClaireTimmerman

A native of Cincinnati Ohio, Claire recently returned home after several years of residence in Paris, France. While abroad, she studied Jazz and vocal music at Paris VIII Université and began touring internationally as an independent Singer-Songwriter, performing at some of Europe’s acclaimed festivals and venues performing on Violin, Cello and Guitar. At the Center, Claire is teaching lessons on all 3 instruments: Violin, Cello and Guitar, and offers a unique approach to both traditional and non traditional learners, children and adults alike.

Claire attended the SCPA in Cincinnati, Ohio, and later graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan where she majored in violin performance. Claire completed studies at the University of Dayton in Music Therapy with a minor in cello performance. There, she also studied guitar and voice.

Claire’s  parents, both Suzuki teachers, studied in Japan under the direct tutelage of Dr. Suzuki. Her passion for music and teaching were nurtured from a very young age. She began playing violin using the Suzuki method at the age of 2, and Suzuki cello shortly thereafter. She began her Suzuki teacher training and taught her first Suzuki workshop in St. Petersburg, FL while still in her teens.

Her travels and diverse musical studies have led her to have a very dynamic and holistic approach to music and teaching. Claire believes that music is an integral part of the human experience and that everyone should have an equal opportunity to learn.

Teacher Extraordinaire – Kelly Langdon

KellyLangdon-Africa

Kelly Langdon (on the left) is one of our wonderful art instructors. Yet, Kelly does more than inspire creation in others. For the past year, she has been living in Zimbabwe, Africa – amongst 102 lions. Yes, real ones! While in Zimbabwe, Kelly painted a huge mural and prepared a school for kids to learn about conservation.  After leaving Africa, Kelly painted her way through the rest of the world: Cambodia, Thailand, Bali and Ireland, always leaving her mark.  Among many other camps, next week Kelly will be taking kids on their own safari adventure in Safari Adventure Art Camp and next month, she will be teaching a Mural Camp right here at the Center! To see Kelly’s African murals visit http://kellylangdon.weebly.com/murals.html.

So, what are you waiting for? Sign up today and hear a few stories of her own Indiana Jonesing.

Take your mark, smile, aaaand…. dance and sing!

Is your 5 – 8 year old always singing and acting around the house? Than the Mini Musical with Ms. Mary is for him! How about your 8+ year old? Musical Theater Camp might just be the right thing!

Mini Musical Director (and our Musik Kids Program Director) Ms. Mary Rekers creates an environment where children will learn a new musical composed by Ms. Mary especially for these camps. For older children, Musical Theater Camp Music Director Keith Minnery and Director and Choreographer Steve Irwin take children on a learning adventure and a production of a junior version of major musical. Well known in the tri-state as experienced educators, Mr. Minnery and Mr. Irwin will teach the children ins and outs of acting, dancing and singing, while putting on a full one-hour production of a wonderful musical.

Music Summer Camps

Chosen through a rigorous selective process, faculty at the Wyoming Fine Arts Center is comprised of 35 educated and experienced musicians, dancers and artists. With years of experience in educating children and adults, many are also performing and creating artists, thus bringing a unique blend of theoretical and practical knowledge to our students.

Art Summer Camps

It’s summer – and it needs to be filled with creative artistic endeavors! Whether the child is just a young expressive beginner or is an art expert, our camps are guaranteed to be fun! They will challenge each student at their level, while creating a collaborative and supportive environment for each child to find or develop his or her artistic voice in a fun and nurturing environment. Best of all – a ton of art will be created and brought home at the end of the camp week for everyone to enjoy. Select art work will be featured on our end of summer art exhibit!
